Alzheimer’s Association Holding Training for Direct Care Staff

The Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a series of educational seminars for direct care staff and the Home Care Alliance encourages those interested to participate.

The format is a train the trainer model created to prepare attendees, already familiar with Alzheimer’s and dementia care, to train direct care staff in a wide array of care settings, including home care.

The curriculum is a train the trainer model created to prepare attendees, already familiar with Alzheimer’s and dementia care, to train direct care staff in a wide array of care settings. The 7 hour training teaches attendees the 13 hour curriculum in best Habilitation Therapy practices. Modules include a PowerPoint presentation, discussion activities, lecture, and demonstration, role-play and group work.

Module Topics:

• Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia, • Habilitation Therapy, • Knowing and Understanding the Individual, • Communication Skills: We Need to Know the Language • Does the Physical Environment Make a Difference?, • Our Approach to Personal Care, • Activity and Purposeful Engagement, • Behavior as Communication: Understanding and Responding, • Understanding and Working with Families

9:00-9:30am Registration & Check-in

9:30am-4:30pm Training

Cost

  • $300 for one representative ($150*)
  • $550 for two representatives ($275*)
  • $200 for each additional representative ($100*)

*The cost of the program includes CEU’s (offered to nurses, social workers, activity professionals and nursing home administrators).

Non-profit rate available to smaller community non-profits that are town, city, or state funded.
